Creating a library in sierra leone

Promoting global literacy to inspire the leaders of tomorrow
  • In the summer of 2015, Youngchange-Bestchange led a collaborative project to CREATE A NEW LIBRARY AT KISSY MUNICIPAL SECONDARY SCHOOL IN SIERRA LEONE.

  • WORKING WITH A NETWORK OF TALENTED HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN TEN DIFFERENT STATES, WE COLLECTIVELY RAISED 500 DOLLARS AND GATHERED 1000 BOOKS TO SEND TO THE CHILDREN AT THIS SCHOOL.

  • THIS REVAMPED LIBRARY HAS DIRECTLY INCREASED THE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES OF THE 1000 STUDENTS ENROLLED AT KISSY MSS, AND WE ARE HUMBLED TO HEAR OF ITS SUCCESS.

The role of the library in the enhancement of the educational development of the learner cannot be overemphasized.

MAKING A BOLD STATEMENT IN OUR COMMUNITY

Leading hundreds of local students in demonstrations for progressive education

YOUNGCHANGE-Bestchange believes that access to a quality, personalized education is a fundamental right.

That's why we organized a series of nationally recognized demonstrations in April 2016 to inspire high school students to advocate for the educational system they wanted to see.

Two hundred and sixty nine students stood with us to demand change in the American education system, moving away from a system of excessive standardized testing to one more based on personalized learning.

[YCBC founder] Sam Gorman initiated an effort that led to nearly 270 students opting out of the state standardized exam at Burbank High School.

Sam demonstrates the power of a single individual to make a difference. I happily add him to my blog’s honor roll for his intelligence and leadership.
— Diane Ravitch, former U.S Assistant Secretary of Education
We've worked with students, parents, administrators and community activists to uncover alternative forms of education that provide our students with the tools they need to succeed on a global level, without taking away the joy of learning through a constant test taking environment.
